Well, January has now gone. And, whilst the restaurant has seen the usual hibernation patterns of patrons, I have kept myself from boredom in my usual fashion.
Some seedlings have already germinated on my kitchen windowsill (broad beans, broccoli, celeriac, and tomatoes). The poly-tunnel needs attention next with ‘unwanted growth’ taking over in places… but there remain joyful yellow jewels which cause the branches of the lemon tree to bow.
Where there were raised beds, due to the high water table, there is now a large bed ready for planting rows to increase productivity. The years of layering now enabling the soil to drain well enough for growing, although I did move 2 tonnes of vegetable topsoil in my wheelbarrow to fill the gaps!
Despite the usual slow winter trade, I have had some amazing services with equally amazing people. And after 35 years in this industry, I am still as excited in anticipation of the year ahead and the potential fun to be had with my future guests.
Check out the video on this page to see the ever ongoing work.
Forever grateful,
B
